Character: Death the Kid
Timeline: Chapter 30-31 of the Manga while Kid is waiting for the Runaway Express, trying to get the demon tool inside it.
Personality: Soul Eater is known for its quirky characters and Death the Kid is no exception to this rule. When you first meet him, you’d think that he’s an intelligent, responsible, mature and respectable person, but there’s more to him than that. Being an only child, especially to the great Shinigami-sama, he’s grown up being spoiled and expecting things to go the way (or making sure that it does). He even went as far to convince Black*Star, who flatly refused at first, to carry him because he didn’t want to get his shoes muddy in a cave. That is another important thing to know about him, he’s a neat freak and perfectionist to the point that he’s even gone to get therapy for it (It didn’t really help).
How so? Well, Kid lives his life based on symmetry. Everything he wears, he does, his weapons, his house to the slightest detail has to be perfect. He’s even known to abandon a mission if he left his home and thought that the picture frame was a bit off or forgot to fold the ends of his toilet paper into triangles (in most cases it’s just his imagination). Yes, saying that he’s obsessed like that might even be an understatement. If something is even the slightest bit off in anything he encounters, it’ll drive him insane and call it an abomination. If he crashes into something, it has to be in the direct center. Oh and God forbid if it’s something he’s done to disturb the world’s symmetry. For example, the 3 white stripes in his hair that throw his own symmetry off…yeah don’t mention that or else he’ll collapse on the floor and whine about being trash and deserving to die.
Background: Death the Kid, is the only son of Shinigami-Sama (The main Death God) who runs a school called Shibusen. Since Kid is already a Shinigami, he doesn’t have to attend that school or do anything really. Being the stubborn child that he is though, he decides that he wants to make his own weapons and turn them into death scythes because he refuses to fight with…yes, anything unsymmetrical.
Much to his luck he found what he was looking for in the streets of Brooklyn. There he met the Thompson sisters who are both weapons and to his delight, twins. The girls Liz and Patty, turn into similar looking guns and allowing Kid to fight, but their human forms are a different story. Annoyingly enough for Kid, they’re not identical and each have their differences such as height, hair and even boob size.
So having two weapons instead of one, Kid has to not only collect the quota of 99 souls and 1 witch soul to have his weapons become absolutely suitable for the use of a shinigami, he
has to do it twice. He also ends up joining Shibusen, which is a school for Meisters and
weapons to train and defeat souls that have gone astray. These souls are called Kishin and
have chosen to eat good souls instead of the bad ones that are on Shinigami-sama’s list. So
along with Maka, Soul, Black*Star, Tsubaki, and sometimes others, Kid helps them in their battles against the forces threatening their world such as Medusa, Arachne and the Kishin that used to reside locked under the school and was released.
